Instantiation Based First-Order Calculi PhD Qualifying Exam
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper provides a survey over instantiation based calculi for first-order logic. This kind of calculus, which has the generation of instances of formulae at its core, has been neglected for a long period of time due to the success of resolution based methods. It has experienced a revival in interest in the last decade, as more efficient instantiation based calculi have been developed. After shortly introducing the field of automated theorem proving, some of the current instantiation based methods are described in moderate detail. The survey finishes with a comparison of these methods, based on theoretical properties and practical experiences with existing implementations.

System Description: iProver – An Instantiation-Based Theorem Prover for First-Order Logic
iProver is an instantiation-based theorem prover which is based on Inst-Gen calculus, complete for first-order logic. One of the distinctive features of iProver is a modular combination of instantiation and propositional reasoning. In particular, any state-of-the art SAT solver can be integrated into our framework. iProver incorporates state-of-the-art implementation techniques such as indexing...

PURPOSE Emergency Medicine (EM) residents take the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) in-training exam, and performance on this exam has been shown to correlate to performance on the ABEM qualifying exam. Though many residencies have in-training exam preparation activities, there is little data on the effectiveness of these efforts. This study aimed to elicit resident perspectives abou...

متن کاملInstantiation-Based Automated Reasoning: From Theory to Practice
Instantiation-based automated reasoning aims at combining the efficiency of propositional SAT and SMT technologies with the expressiveness of firstorder logic. Propositional SAT and SMT solvers are probably the most successful reasoners applied to real-world problems, due to extremely efficient propositional methods and optimized implementations. However, the expressiveness of firstorder logic ...
